PERFORMANCE PHYSICAL THERAPY’S ORTHOPEDIC RESIDENCY PROGRAM LAUNCHES FIRST COHORT
Providence, RI December 10, 2021 - Performance Physical Therapy announces its new Orthopedic Residency Program and the successful enrollment of eight residents into the first cohort beginning January 2022.
“At Performance, we believe in providing limitless professional development opportunities to clinicians as they grow throughout their career, whether they seek to grow into leaders as Clinic Directors or as clinical leaders, mentors, and experts,” says Clinical Officer David Pavao. “The development of our own Orthopedic Residency was a natural step for us to continue providing opportunities not only to residents but also for our clinician-leaders as mentors and faculty.”
The Performance Orthopedic Residency is currently in the 2-year vetting process to become fully accredited by the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education (ABTRFE). The first step was the successful completion of ABPTRFE’s rigorous Application for Candidacy, consisting of both a written report and peer review of the program.
“Performance fully supports the growth of their therapists. After personally completing a residency and earning my OCS (Orthopedic Clinical Specialist), I saw the value of advanced training and wanted to provide our clinicians the same opportunity through the creation of our own residency program,” says Residency Director Bobby Dattilo. “With the support from our leadership team, that’s exactly what we did! Together, we have built a better, more personalized residency program that offers a unique pathway from student to specialist to faculty member so we can continue growing and innovating.”
The 12-month residency program incorporates clinical practice hours, one-on-one mentoring with board-certified specialists, an evidence-based orthopedic curriculum, management seminar, and OCS prep course. On successful completion of the program’s stringent requirements, participants are prepared to sit for the ABPTS Orthopedic Specialist Examination.
